Classic Barbel & Chub fishing on the River Kennet.

An amazing opportunity to fish either a privately owned and very rarely fished Mill pool, or the rural and picturesque main river, of the famous River Kennet. Rising out of the ground in Wiltshire the River Kennet is one of the most famous chalk stream rivers in the south of England and provides wonderful sport all year round

The River Kennet is steeped in history as being one of the most productive chalk steams in the south. The Kennet has been assigned as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) from near its sources west of Marlborough down to Woolhampton. This is primarily due to the diverse range of rare plants, animals, insects and fish species that are unique to chalk watercourses.

We are extremely lucky to have such marvelous fishing available on the middle river Kennet. Our access includes several miles of both banks and even a small section of the, almost as famous, river Lambourne. There are so many features, weirpools, gullies, eddies and over hangs that you're sure of great sport from one species or another.

Your guide and host is the amazing Mr Roberts who also hosts the Classic Thames weirpool days. Mr Roberts is an Angling Trust L1 coach and full time river guide who practises the most marvellous, traditional and historic forms of fishing using split cane rods and antique reels to bring amazing catches of impressive river pike, chub, perch and almost every other UK river species to his net. Mr Roberts can normally be found dressed in tweed, donning a traditional Tilley hat with check shirt and tie. (There is no better dressed fishing guide in the UK!)

You also wont find a better guide to teach you these ancient techniques that have brought us angling as we know it today. We offer multiple techniques of fishing including trotting, fly fishing and ledgering to catch species such as barbel, chub, roach, trout, pike, perch and grayling. Simply choose which species you wish to target  and your host will show you how.

Your host Mr Roberts provides his legendary packed lunch with every booking. Included is a soft drink, a bottle of real old English ale, a selection of cheeses, pies and handmade filled rolls which are baked fresh every morning. All this comes in a personal beautiful wicker basket and offered with hot tea and coffee through out the day.

Closest rail station is Newbury which is an hour out of London from Paddington Station. We can pick you up and drop you back to the station. Free parking available if you drive. Local accommodation available on request at great rates.
